"Compensation for Creation"

About

Songbird Studios is the progressive music publishing company that supports local songwriters. Our goal is to provide access and opportunities for Michigan based songwriters to get their original music recorded, used, and heard. Through placements in movies and TV, recordings done by other artists, and consistent royalty payouts, we make the idea of building a career around songwriting possible. With an alteration on the traditional music publishing deal, Songbird Studios hopes to revolutionize the Michigan music industry, providing compensation for creation while building a sustaining music community.

Owner/Operator: Jacob McLeod

Based in Big Rapids, Michigan, Jacob McLeod became obsessed with all things music during the lockdown of 2020. With time on his hands, he learned guitar, piano, and began to write his own songs as well. Since then, he has released numerous singles, a full length album, performed all across the state of Michigan, and just recently released his debut EP “Mozart,” all while attending Central Michigan University. A junior Commercial Music major with minors in Songwriting, Broadcast and Cinematic Arts, and Creative Writing, he is currently 20 years old and making a name for himself as one of the premier upcoming songwriters and performers in the great state of Michigan.

Songbird Services

Royalty Collection

Song Pitching

Sync Licensing

Get paid for your music! At tier one of our Song Services, we will register a song with collection agencies all around the world, collect everything it generates, and pay back the writer 100% until their original investment has been recouped, after which it will be split 75/25 in the writer's favor.

At tier two of our Song Services, we will pitch original music to larger recording artists and record labels, getting those songs the opportunity to be recorded by big names. These potential recordings (and potential signings) will generate more royalties for writers. The same royalty deal applies.

At the third tier of our Song Services, we will actively work to get original music placed in film, TV, and ads; what's known as "Synchronization licensing." These placements result in fees for the use of the song, of which the writer and Songbird Studios split 50/50. The previous royalty deal still applies.
